Degrees

The Ph.D. in Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literatures program consists of a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree plus a dissertation.

The curriculum for Ï㽶ÊÓƵ's Ph.D. in Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literatures program requires students to complete 60 semester hours of coursework beyond the bachelor's degree. This includes the curriculum from the M.A. program and an additional 30 semester hours. Students can specialize in Ancient Northwest Semitic Languages or Near Eastern Christian Languages and Literatures, with primary languages such as Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, Coptic, Ethiopic, and Syriac.

Ph.D. candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in French and German, or substitute Modern Hebrew for one of these languages. They are required to pass comprehensive examinations in their major and minor language areas before beginning their dissertation. The program encourages taking courses outside the department to complement students' interests and enhance their interdisciplinary knowledge.
